The Advanced Flow and Heat Transfer Laboratory (AFHTL) is pleased to congratulate our senior Ph.D. student Congshan Mao on successfully passing his doctoral comprehensive examination.

Passing the comprehensive examination marks an important milestone in the Ph.D. journey, demonstrating both technical expertise and readiness to pursue independent research at the doctoral level. This achievement reflects Congshan's hard work, dedication, and strong commitment to advancing thermal-fluid science and engineering.

Congshan's research focuses on the fundamental understanding of flow and heat transfer in microchannel systems using a combination of advanced laser-based experimental diagnostics and physics-based machine learning approaches. His work seeks to uncover the complex interactions governing fluid flow, heat transfer, and phase-change processes in microscale thermal systems while developing predictive models that integrate physical principles with data-driven techniques.

The outcomes of his research have the potential to advance next-generation thermal management technologies for high-power-density applications, including advanced energy systems, electronics and semiconductor cooling, data centers, and other emerging thermal-fluid engineering challenges.
